McLaren
duo set fastest times ahead of F1 season opener in Australia

  1. Well! Comments and questions:
    - 2nd practice didn't really show much of any indicators as far as I could see. With the exception of course, that HRT are in WAY over their heads, and shouldn't even be in the paddock, never mind on the grid.
    - Tell me - has Chandhok been fired yet? What an idiot!
    - So, are MS and Mercedes sandbagging?
    - What about Vettel and Webber? I would have thought MW would have wanted to been at the top of the timesheets every chance he got for his home grand prix, but alas, that didn't happen.
    - Are Hamilton and Button really that much better than the rest? Winter testing certainly didn't indicate that, nor did any of their low key comments coming up to the week in Australia.
    - Tires are definitely going to be the big question mark for everyone this year, and may not be a popular way to decide races.
    - Hopefully, qualifying will tell a better story - or at least give stronger indications of where everyone is really at.
-Will the 107% rule be enforced if the back 3-4 rows can't cut it in qualifying?

Going to be very interesting. I DO think that this season opener has way more question marks than any I can recall in recent history, though - so perhaps that's a good thing for F1.

  2. Qual Sat: MW drove his tits off today but SV must have bigger ones!!! From T1 it was hard to separate the top dozen or so .. Jock's fav Fred was exceptionally smooth when others were twitching. The top 6 usual suspects all did the job.

Massa seemed to struggle ... a legacy of past trauma perhaps???

Impressed by the former Minardis though ;)

Weather should be fine & cool for raceday.

And what about the vision of those rear flaps opening & closing???? Sunday they can only activate on Pit Straight.

Writing this @ 10PM Sat having only just arrived home @ 9:30. This late start stuff is bull$hit ... I preferred the days of having to be at the track to catch the 9AM F1 warm-up session.

Hard to beat the current Qual format though ... it's tops!

  3. I thought Fred was HORRIBLE in qualifying! Seemed to be suffering a lot of under/over steer in my mind. As for Massa? Well, he may be driving for his ride, but after what I witnessed on the tube, I'd have to say to Ferrari: start looking for your replacement!
