I don't really trust what happens in pre-season testing any longer. Ferrari especially could be holding back - but then again MacLaren are pretty good at that as well. We'll just have to wait and see what happens 2-3 races into the season - then we'll have a better handle on what has really been accomplished this past winter. Would LOVE to see Nico Rosberg kick some butt for Mercedes and grind MS into oblivion, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see if that is possible or not this year.
Rosberg’s done a reasonable job against Schumacher. I still wonder if he has the burning desire to be champion though. For some reason, I always get the feeling that he’s driving at nine-tenths and not really on the limit like Alonso or Hamilton.
"Upbeat on..." Every driver is "upbeat" at this time of year. Unless the car has only three wheels everyone is putting the best spin on things. Let's see where we are after a few races.
That said. I really think Micheal's time has past. He could have been a Ferrari legend. Raced part time in LMS for Ferrari. But now he is just going to drift away - washed up.
I think if Rosberg had "the car" you'd see him driving 11/10ths or 12/10ths. On those rare occasions (one in a Williams I think) that he did have complete confidence in the car, he really did shine! I just hope he doesn't get lost in Mercedes with MS there - which seemed to be the case last year, even though he certainly carried his weight, and more!
Pre-season testing seems pretty vague.... apart from Red Bull seem on top as expected. As for the rest, the pecking order is far from clear...
