I am so excited! I can't wait. The field is huge this year. I think this has to be due to the International Challenge. This is the type of interseries championship that I had been suggesting the CART/F1 or CART/IRL do all those years ago.
I have no picks but I will tell you who I am cheering for:
P1 - #2 Capello/Kristensen/McNish Audi R15+/TDI
P2 - #055 Tucker/Hunter-Reay/Diaz Lola Honda
PC - I have no real feelings about this but I love the LMPC concept.
GT - I'd love for the Corvettes to win but I fear that those new Ferrari 458 might beat them.
GTAM - Krohn's Ferrari despite the fact that there is a ZR-1.
Other thoughts...
ALMS needs to open up the GTC to more than Porsches. Maybe then GTC could join the big boys in these big races.
Many have complained about the ESPN3 online package and the lack of live TV coverage. Really? This is going to be great. Last year the ALMS did a few live-on-Saturday then Highlights-on-Sunday packages. The condensed highlight shows were very well done.
I have to agree Danni, I think the ALMS TV/Net package will be great (also as I get to watch it for the first time!
ReplyDeleteI am going for the Peugeot boys in LMP1, the Signatech Oreca in P2, love to see the Lambo do well in GT - and the Larbre Vette too...
Should be a good race
TV/Web was great. I had one error when loading and then closed my browser and reloaded - all was fine. It is not HD but I've been known to follow a race via times posted in a table. So, much better that that. Just as good a regular TV. Good job. I am looking forward to the recap to see exactly what happened to my Audi Team. (I missed the first few hours. )
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS to Matmut Oreca for P1, and Rahal's BMW.
Fun Fun fun.
Yeah - that was a bit of a shocker. I didn't expect Oreca to walk away with the win, but good on them!
ReplyDeleteThe web stream was great...much better than I thought it would be. I was able to run full screen on the laptop and except for a few jitters when either their or my internet couldn't handle it, I had pretty decent continuous picture and commentary, very impressive.
ReplyDeleteAs for the race, I don't think many people would have predicted Oreca beating out all the Audis and Peugeots and certainly I think it would have been unexpected to have no Audis on the podium...
Great job from the BMW guys too - great run from them!
It turns out that the GTC Porsches were racing but I didn't notice that class in the starting grid.
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed in the ABC Sports 90 minute recap on Sunday. There was no flow to the race and no building of a story to follow. I know this isn't a NASCAR show but last season the CBS/ALMS team did a great job with the delayed recaps.
The live ESPN3.com stream was excellent and everything that I expected.
Yeah the GTC cars were there...even the ALMS site seemed to ignore the GTC and LMPC grids. Shame the ABC highlights were poor, they will be the key to building the series. Hopefully the shorter races will be easier for them.
ReplyDeleteLoved the webstream...can't wait for Long Beach
