A little bit of motorsport research

I'm not sure if anyone still hangs round here (shame, but I guess that is life...) but anyway, if anyone is here...

I'm doing a bit of research at the moment for a small project (non-commercial, for academic purposes) and I am looking at how people like to follow motorsport events.

I am particularly looking to know if you like to follow live blogs/tweets/discussions while watching TV or at the event itself; or follow the blogs/tweets/discussions if you can't be at the event or watch it on TV.

Is there anything you'd like to see changed about how you can keep updated on motorsport events?

Any information you can provide on this (or anything related to this) would be gratefully received.

Thanks
Sam

Anyone watching Qualifying Heats from Iowa?
------
This format could have been done better. Maybe a way for heat winners to  go for the pole.

------

rain delays make me think. I propose the following heat format.
practice times or current season points determine if a driver is in the odd or even group.

The top 4 from the odd and even group go on to the pole qualifier (PQ).

The next 4 in each heat go to the last chance qualifier.

The remainder are placed on the grid.

The top 2 in the last chance go to PQ.

The PQ of course determines the top 10 on the grid.

30 lap heats seemed about right.

racing in the heats is emcouraged by having heat prizes even if it is a pit crew pizza party.
-------
ok now lets clean up Dario's car and go green.

of IndyCar & The Mile

I wish I could be there but alas I am working this weekend - I will be watching.  Some thoughts: I have not seen this kind of promotion for a race in Milwaukee for ages.  Wow even before the split they didn't promote like this on local news, radio, a car show, ads.  On top of that they moved the race to Saturday to avoid Fathers Day conflicts.  I really hope people show up.

of Le Mans 24 Hours 2012

Quick, obvious thoughts before the race:

"Road to Le Mans" The Toyota documentary is very much worth watching.

LMP1 - An Audi diesel will win.  The Audi eTron's flywheel has more racing history than the Toyota hybrid but look for a tough fight.  I think the Toyota will finish, but even if they do not, they have something to be proud of - a brand new car in 9 months and a whole year ahead of schedule.

GT - You know I am rooting for the Corvettes.

Delta Wing - go Go GO!  What a cool story - an engineers doodles to mock up to reality!  It doesn't get better than that.

Let's have a safe race.

Better Racing in 2012

Is it just me, or has the actual "racing" been far superior this year? I thought both Malaysia and China were awesome races! Not used to having this quality twice in a season, never mind twice in a row.

The F1 Pool

Well, only Danni and I decided to have fun with the pool this year. Danni is beating me by a country mile, but it is still early days.....and I just keep telling myself that!

Malaysia

WOW! Normally I don't care for rain soaked races, but Malaysia was really exciting! Congratulations to Perez who drove his butt off! Really made it worth watching, that's for sure. And had anyone told me Ferrari would win? I would have said "you're dreaming"! Also nice to not have to look at a pouty Hamilton this week. But all in all, a fantastic race - had a little bit of everything. Truly enjoyed it.

You're going to have to hold this...

How is this news?

"I just needed something more practical," Patrick said. "It sounds stupid but there are no cup holders in my Lamborghini."

And who NEEDS a cup holder in a Lambo?

of The Rolex 24 at Daytona & Two AJs

It was sad to see that AJ Foyt could not make it to this year's Rolex 24 at Daytona. Speed reported that he was too sick to give the call to start the engines. I hope for the best. He is one of the toughest Texans and a racer that should be admired by race fans of every type.

The race was fun. I saw several hours of it. The field was huge! Something like 114 cars in the field. Just nuts. Who didn't have a ride in this race?

The Grand Am Series finally got the DPs right - looks wise at least. It would have been great to see the new Corvette DP win but that Ford looked sweet, too. I'd prefer more than one GT class but who can argue with those numbers? I was really impressed with the restraint of the officials as they kept the race under green for the last 15 minutes. Cars seemed to be sliding off track or stopping everywhere in the final minutes except for the banking at the S/F line. Then Waltrip took his Ferrari into the tires. I was screaming at the TV 'knowing' that the NASCAR fix was in. It wasn't. AJ - The Dinger - Allmendinger won the race under green.

I seem to remember that kid, not too long ago, trying to find some shade under his team's Formula Atlantic tent at The Mile. Am I that old?

The Canuck Gets It

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/96930

Glad to see Hinch got the Andretti ride! I really think that he probably deserved it the most of any of the "new crop". Also glad to see Servia landed somewhere. Would have been happy with either of them getting the Andretti ride, but sort of favor Hinch, as he is after all, CANADIAN!!!!! :)

Hardly credible praise

I REALLY like Alonso - he is definitely my most favourite driver on the current F1 grid, but come on Fred! Your best buddy has just fallen and broken his leg after a full season PLUS of recuperating from a horrific accident where he is lucky to still be alive; and suddenly you say he is the most feared driver on the grid for you? Not really a credible statement. I think you are just sticking up for your friend and trying to keep the door open a crack for him.
