Eccelestone says "Not about money" ????

  1. I don't care what it is about - it is a stupid and irresponsible thing to do. Just what the world needed - 24 very wealthy drivers and their teams - from all over the map held hostage in a country that is ready to implode. Does anyone remember the American hostage takin in Iran in 1979? Going to Bahrain while the country is in a near state of civil war, is just insane! The drivers should protest and NOT go! Bernie be damned!

  2. Bernie be damned I agree.

This whole issue is insane. The teams don't want it, the drivers don't want it but the "Money Man" does so it's on ?? Time to blow Bernie away I think.

Seems some of the participants aren't happy either !!

  4. BBC TV announced this morning that it was cancelled. Yeah well, may as well Bernie - when you throw a party and nobody comes, you may as well lock the door and turn out the lights.

The man is a total and complete idiot! If that's what having all that money does to someone, then I'm glad I'm poor.

  5. Having the race there was always sketchy at best. I have no idea why a Westerner would travel to that part of the world - well other than money. This year would just be insane.

  6. Jock

The really wild part is Bernie flip-flopping from one position to another !! FOTA apparently told him in no uncertain terms !!

Then we get the FIA Head, Jean Todt saying the race is on !! Didn't he get the memo ??

  7. Well, if he was waiting for Bernie to send him the memo, then the easy answer is "likely not"...considering Bernie doesn't think too much of Jean, and would thoroughly enjoy making Jean look like an idiot!

  8. "and would thoroughly enjoy making Jean look like an idiot! "

Which is really a pretty short journey !!

  9. This is one of those really easy calls to make that the FIA has made very badly...they didn't even have to suffer political damange from it from Bahrain...they could have said that 'Your country was unsafe when we wanted to go. We will consult with the French (FIA being French) authorities for next year's event. If they clear it we will be back.'
Instead they do this and make themselves out to be the fools in action (see what I did there ;) ) that they are...

  10. got it Sam! Good one!
Yes, this circus travels to too many countries that in a moment's notice can become a powder keg (none are immune anymore) - the last thing they need to do is embroil themselves, or be perceived to embroil themselves in the middle of mini civil wars all over the globe. You are absolutely correct. What they should have said was Ssorry, your country is in turmoil, it isn't safe for us to go there. Get yourselves sorted out, and then come talk to us when you have." If the almighty dollar is so important to these countries (and the FIA of course), perhaps somebody of influence could affect swifter change so that in the end, less people suffer all around.
