of ALMS & Grand Am

Any thoughts on the proposed rules and classes for 2014?

For 2014 - the combined series is disallowing LMP1.  The new Prototype class will include the current yet performance balanced P2, DP, & the Delta Wing.  The PC class will remain as a separate class.

In the GT categories we get GT2 as a class.  The Daytona GT and GTC will merge with questions remaining about the new GX class.  Will GX stand alone or merge with GT & GTC?

My thoughts...
Wow! Why couldn't IndyCar have done that when Indy & Champ merged?

I understand getting rid of LMP1, but I would have left the class in place so there would be a reason for the big factory teams to come to the races in Sebring and Daytona.  To make sure that the teams in the US do not compete all year in LMP1 all you'd have to do is not award season points for LMP1.

The new prototype class is to be equalized between P2, DP, & Delta Wing.  It depends how equalization is done, but I like it.  I also love that the Delta Wing gets new life.  Maybe we will see more DWs.

I am pretty sure that Grand Am had set up their GT class to be close to ACO/FIA GT3.  It makes sense to keep GT2 and DGT/GTC separate.  The big mess is what to do with GX.  They have to keep it in place.  How do you sell an idea for a class that only lasts one season?

With the merging of classes it makes you wonder why they two series didn't run as one in 2013.
