I don't disagree with you and possibly agree with the owners/manufactures. I was just saying that they do this every other year. It gets difficult to get excited about the threat, to get behind the owners, because it never happens. Bernie ends up keeping the series and somehow grows more powerful. It is like he feeds on this and pushes the owners into making threats.
"Good, I can feel your anger. I am defenseless. Take your weapon. Strike me down!"
When you get something like the recent Turkish GP with more seats visible than spectators and Bernie says "No adjustments on fees for next year" you know you have trouble !!
The real problem is that CVC bought on a bubble and paid way too much and as a result have to squeeze every penny to just pay interest !! So what's the answer ??
I think the answer is a new series, owned by the teams. That would force CVC to dump F1 and take the loss.
Sounds fine with me. Now choose a formula compatible with Indy 2012 and you might have something. I would love to see F1 and Indy on an equal playing field again. Maybe then we could have some cross over races.
I know. One thing at a time. Let's get the reigns of the series in the hands of the team owners.
Yes, 2012 would be too quick but I was saying to shoot for the new Indy formula.
I think you describe what I'm talking about - either a shoot out at the end or a handful of blended races. Kind of like what the ACO did to tie all of the LM series together with the International Challenge.
Blend these races: Indy 500 Long Beach Monaco Monza Lausitzring 500
Agreed LongBeachFan - I just don't see that happening in our lifetime. But....does F1 need a new man at the helm? Certainly - the "garden troll" as Knac loves to call him, has definitely gone beyond his expiry date stamp. Unfortunately, I don't think putting F1 in control of the team owners is a very wise decision either - we think there is fighting going on now? Come on - remember what we just went through 2-3 years ago? It would be absolutely NUTSO! Find me two team principals who will agree on 5 things, and I'll say "maybe" - Find 12 team principals to agree on ALL things - or at least enough to keep a full schedule going for a decade? Ain't gonna happen!
Don't the owners know any other move? It is like a toddler telling you that they will hold their breath 'til they get their way.
ReplyDeleteActually Danni it is important to get the series away from Bernie and CVC.
ReplyDeleteThey are wrecking it and the only hope is that the team owners can get their shite together and liberate the series. !!

2012 is too fast but I like your thrust of "blending" the two series.
ReplyDeleteActually I'd kind of prefer a shootout approach at seasons end. With maybe a joint race or two during the season?
Bit like the Stanley Cup playoffs if you know what I mean.

Blend these races:
Indy 500
Long Beach
Monaco
Monza
Lausitzring 500
Or put one on each continent - I don't care.
Now who do I call to put this together?
The two series wouldn't have to be identical either.
ReplyDeleteF1 would still have two car teams that need to build their own chassis or bodywork; and race all road/street. Standing starts would stay as well.
IndyCar could continue to have its teams of 1 or more cars and use purchased cars as they do now. Indy would continue to use their flying starts.
I'm sure we'd see different rules on pit stops.
The point is that the cars could be basically the same formula allowing for blended races.
". . . and if you like this scene from the new 'Fantasy Racing' show on the Comedy Network, wait til you see what Charlie Sheen has been up to!"
ReplyDeleteUh Guys - - - no offense but - - - blending F1 (or some F1 offshoot) and Indy? Nice idea, but a fantasy.
My 2 cents . . .
